The International Baccalaureate
(IB) course is a stimulating two-year course of studies for students
between the ages 16-19, which is recognised as a university entrance
qualification throughout the world. The IB is currently taught
in over 90 countries.
Intellectually rigorous, it stimulates independent thought and
academic initiative while retaining a prescribed breadth of study.
All IB Diploma students must select one subject from each of
the six subject groups, three at Higher Level and three at Standard
Level.
It also requires each student to produce a 4000 word Extended
Essay based on original research, which acts as a preparation
for the kind of personal investigative skills required at university.
In England the IB is strongly favoured by Oxford and Cambridge
and all the older as well as the newer universities. In the USA
it finds favour with the Ivy League Universities and colleges.
